Building the cube is only the first step! Make sure everyone at the table has a great time by following these tips!
Before the draft:
Be respectful. Cube design is a form of self-expression, but it should always be done respectfully. When choosing proxies, sleeves, or any other materials with art or text, avoid offensive content of any kind. Community guidelines also apply to your cube!
Be accessible. Help your players get the most out of your cube by making it easy to understand. When possible, aim to include:
English cards. CubeComBasel is an international community. Remove the language barrier!
Self-explanatory cards. You might know your cube’s mechanics by heart, but not everyone does. A card should be understandable just by reading it.
Share the list. Cube players love knowing what they’re getting into. Share your cube list with the community before the drat! If you’re not sure how, check out https://cubecobra.com. Also consider preparing a short (max 5 minutes) but informative introduction to your cube — highlight themes, mechanics, archetypes, combos, and anything else that’ll help players draft meaningfully.
Prepare the boosters. Yes, preparing boosters is a drag — but it’s much worse if you’re doing right before the draft. For an easy, quick, and effective way to shuffle your cube by yourself, checkout the Broadcast Shuffle.
On the day of the draft:
Bring basic lands. Make sure everyone gets to cast their spells by taking plenty of copies of each basic land with you. For an 8-player draft, 30 to 40 of each type will do the trick.
Bring all the tokens the cube can produce. Board states can get messy fast. Having a good assortment of tokens helps keep things clear. Pro tip: If your cube is on Cube Cobra, you can check which tokens you’ll need by going to Analysis > Tokens.
Bring dice. If you've ever had to represent a +1/+1 counter or a planeswalker's loyalty without dice, you already know why you should bring plenty.
Enjoy! Having people play your cube is a very special thing. Have fun with it!
