What is Cube Draft

Cube is a custom draft format of Magic: The Gathering. A cube is a curated set of 360 or more cards chosen by its designer. Players build decks out of it, using one of many draft formats. No two drafts are ever the same!

Vision

"I'm pretty sure there are more cubes than cube players."

Simone made this joke over a beer after a disappointing 1-2 at an FNM draft. It stuck with us, and eventually prompted us to create CubeComBasel.

Our vision is to gather a group of people to nourish the cube draft format, so that cubes always have players, and players always have cubes. We also envision a safe space for people to enjoy Magic: The Gathering, away from steep entry costs, power creep, and multiverse controversies. Here, it’s all about good games and good people.

History and Highlights

• 8th September 2024: first (failed) attempt at a cube draft in Basel.

• 22nd November 2024: first (successful) attempt at a cube draft in Basel.

• 1st May 2025: CubeComBasel is born!

• 25th May 2025: first full 8-player pod.

• 29th June 2025: first spirited debate over which cube to play.

• 28th September 2025: first double pod.
